What After Sun Massage Is

After sun massage is an ultra-gentle, surface-level cooling treatment for skin that has been overexposed to the sun. The therapist uses ice dipped in pure aloe vera gel and glides it across the affected skin — delivering immediate cold relief and coating the surface with a layer of aloe.

Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis miller) is one of the most widely recommended topical agents for sunburned skin. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) includes aloe vera in its sunburn treatment guidelines as a soothing agent for first-degree sunburn. Aloe gel contains polysaccharides, including acemannan, that form a protective layer on the skin and help it retain moisture.

The session covers the full body with extra attention to sunburned areas. All strokes are feather-light and surface-level only — no deep pressure, no kneading, no friction. Sunburned skin is inflamed tissue; applying conventional massage pressure would cause pain and potentially worsen the damage.

What It Is Not

This is not a massage in the conventional sense. There is no deep tissue work, no muscle manipulation, no stretching. The touch is deliberately minimal — the ice and aloe do the work, not pressure. Think of it as a therapeutic cooling application delivered with massage-like coverage of the full body.

It is not a substitute for medical treatment of severe sunburn. If your skin shows blistering, open wounds, extreme swelling, or signs of sun poisoning (fever, chills, nausea), you need medical attention — not a massage. This treatment is appropriate for first-degree sunburn (red, hot, painful skin without blisters).

It is also not an oil massage. No oil is used — oil on freshly sunburned skin traps heat and can worsen the condition. Only aloe vera gel and ice.

  • 01

    Same-Day Sunburn Relief

The treatment is most effective when done the same day you get the sunburn — while the skin is still hot and inflamed. The ice and aloe combination delivers immediate cooling and starts the soothing process before the burn peaks (sunburn typically worsens 12–24 hours after exposure).

  • 02

    Full-Body Coverage

Unlike applying aloe yourself in a hotel room, this session covers every area evenly — including the back, shoulders, and backs of legs that are hard to reach yourself. The therapist ensures complete, even application.

  • 03

    Immediate Cooling Sensation

Ice gliding across hot, burned skin coated in aloe vera gel produces an intense cooling relief. Most guests describe the sensation as one of the most pleasant parts of the treatment — particularly on the shoulders, upper back, and nose where burns are sharpest.

  • 04

    Moisture Barrier

Sunburned skin loses moisture rapidly. The aloe vera gel layer left on the skin after the treatment helps slow transepidermal water loss. The AAD recommends keeping sunburned skin moisturized as part of the recovery process.

  • 05

    Phuket Sun Is Aggressive

Phuket sits at latitude 7°N — close to the equator — with UV index regularly reaching 11+ (extreme). Even experienced sun-goers underestimate tropical UV. This massage exists because sunburn happens to almost every guest at some point during their stay.

The Session — Stage by Stage

Every session begins with a visual assessment of the burn. Your therapist checks the severity — redness level, any blistering, affected areas — to confirm the treatment is appropriate. If blistering or open skin is present, those areas will be avoided.

Stage 1 — Aloe vera gel application. A generous layer of pure aloe vera gel is applied by hand to the sunburned areas using the lightest possible touch. No rubbing — just placing the gel on the skin and letting it settle.

Stage 2 — Ice gliding. The therapist takes a piece of ice, dips it in aloe vera gel, and glides it slowly across the skin. The ice melts gradually, mixing with the aloe and delivering a continuous stream of cold relief. Strokes follow the contours of the body — long, smooth, with zero pressure. The sensation on hot skin is immediately soothing.

Stage 3 — Area-by-area coverage. The ice-and-aloe process moves systematically through the full body — back, shoulders, arms, legs, neck — with extra time on the most affected areas. Fresh ice is used as each piece melts.

Stage 4 — Non-burned areas. Areas without sunburn receive a very gentle, light-touch massage with aloe gel — still surface-level, still cooling, but slightly more structured than the burn areas.

Stage 5 — Final aloe layer. A closing layer of aloe vera gel is applied to the most affected areas and left on the skin — not wiped off. This layer continues to soothe and moisturize after you leave.

After the session — cold water and herbal tea. We recommend wearing loose clothing and avoiding sun exposure for the rest of the day.

The same day, as soon as you notice the burn. Sunburn is a delayed reaction — the full extent of the damage typically peaks 12–24 hours after UV exposure. Starting the cooling and aloe application early, while the skin is still in the acute inflammation phase, gives the best result. If you burned in the morning, come in the afternoon or evening.

No — the opposite. All contact is feather-light and surface-level. There is no massage pressure, no kneading, no friction. The ice and aloe gel deliver cooling relief, not pressure. Most guests describe the sensation as immediately soothing, especially on the hottest areas like the shoulders and upper back. If any area feels sensitive, your therapist will reduce contact or skip it.

This treatment is appropriate for first-degree sunburn — red, hot, painful skin without blisters. If your skin shows blistering, open wounds, extreme swelling, or you are experiencing fever, chills, or nausea (signs of sun poisoning or second-degree burn), you need medical attention, not a massage. Your therapist will assess the burn before starting and will avoid any areas with blisters or broken skin.

Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis miller) is one of the most widely recommended topical agents for sunburn care. The American Academy of Dermatology includes it in their sunburn treatment guidelines. Aloe gel contains polysaccharides that help the skin retain moisture and form a protective layer over the damaged surface. Combined with ice, it delivers both immediate cooling and a sustained moisture barrier.

Oil on freshly sunburned skin traps heat — the opposite of what the skin needs. Conventional massage pressure on inflamed tissue causes pain and can worsen the damage. After sun massage uses no oil and no pressure — only aloe gel and ice. Once your sunburn has healed (typically 3–7 days for first-degree burns), you can return for any regular massage.

A cool (not hot) rinse to remove sunscreen, sand, or salt is fine. Do not use hot water on sunburned skin — it increases inflammation. Do not scrub. Come as you are if you prefer — the therapist will work with aloe gel regardless.

60 minutes — enough for targeted work on the most affected areas (typically shoulders, back, face, and arms). 90 minutes — full-body coverage with extra time on burn areas, the most popular choice. 120 minutes — extended session for severe full-body sunburn where every area needs thorough attention.

Same-day booking via WhatsApp is best for this treatment — timing matters. We keep aloe vera gel and ice available daily. Message us as soon as you realize you've burned, and we'll fit you in. Open daily 10:00 to 22:00.
